Want to Play Squash? Try St. Luke's School

Squash in the US has traditionally been associated with expensive private clubs and Ivy League colleges. If you don’t belong to one or the other, it can be tough to learn the game or even find a place to play. Despite these challenges, the popularity of squash continues to soar along with demand for courts and lessons.

Many local area players have to drive long distances to towns with courts. Others may want to learn or have their children take lessons, but never pursue due to lack of access. This is about to change as St. Luke’s School, located at 377 North Wilton Road in New Canaan, spreads the word about its SLS Squash Access Program. Local enthusiasts can enjoy four top-quality International courts, minutes from home and at a fraction of country club costs. The program is open to all and includes adult, junior and family memberships. For complete details, download a full brochure and application

While the facilities are limited and don’t include showers or luxurious lounge areas, SLS courts are already a favorite with area players who are in it for the game and enjoy existing programs including men’s round-robin play, ladies’ mornings, private lessons and junior clinics.

St. Luke’s Squash Director Cat McLeod played on the Women’s International Pro Circuit, was the 2007 NCAA Squash Player of the Year and a four time All American Player at Yale. Cat commented on the sport and the SLS Access Program: “Squash is popular because it’s challenging and rewarding. It’s fast-paced and requires equal levels of skill, mental strategy, athleticism and competitiveness. I love that we’re offering this program to the whole community and hope a lot of people will come out to try it. One of the best parts of teaching this sport is seeing how children and adults alike get so excited to play.”
