Noel Thomas Jr. Officially Commits and Enrolls at UConn

Dan Lyons
During a ceremony in the Athletic Center on Friday, January 18, Noel Thomas Jr. '13 officially committed to the University of Connecticut to play football for coach Paul Pasqualoni and the Huskies.
Thomas, who finished his St. Luke's coursework in December, compiled 4,888 combined yards and 53 total touchdowns in three seasons as a member of the Storm. He contributed all over the field, and this season saw time at running back, wide receiver, safety, and quarterback.  After a stellar senior season, Noel was selected as MSG Varsity's Connecticut Player of the Year.  He enrolled and began classes at UConn this week, and will begin his UConn career at receiver.

Enrolling early is a major advantage for Noel, who will have an extra semester to become acclimated with schoolwork, college life, and will be able to train and participate in spring practice with UConn.  In speaking with The HourNoel said that his goal is to play as a true freshman: "My biggest challenge is getting game-ready as a freshman, and I want to play as a freshman.  I think they graduated two senior (wide receivers), and they have two juniors-to-be. I?think I have a shot to get playing time, and I?think I will play."

Head coach Paul Pasqualoni believes that Noel can play this year as well: "...I?have no notion of a redshirt season for Noel. We want him to compete to play. At the end of the preseason we want Noel in the competition to play in 2013."  Pasqualoni also thinks that enrolling early puts Noel at a major advantage as a freshman: "Noel is a bigger wide receiver, and now that he is moving on to UConn, everything is specific, and he can focus on football and the weight room."

UConn looks to rebound from a 5-7 2012 season, and opens with a home game against Towson on August 29.
