The two middle school lacrosse teams kicked off the day with back-to-back games against Rippowam-Cisqua School. The boys team, which was down a few key players, struggled in the first game and lost a tough match-up 10-0. The girls team fared much better, and despite some tense moments down the stretch were able to hold off Rippowam and capture a solid 15-11 win.
The varsity golf team didn’t have a match on Saturday, but were very much a part of the festivities, hosting mini-putt and “closest to the pin” competitions throughout the afternoon. The team is currently on top of the FAA standings, and extended their record to 5-0 with an 8-1 win over Masters on Monday.
Both varsity tennis programs faced off against the teams from Christian Heritage School. The Storm girls, led by seniors Sanjana Chintalapudi ’13, Allie Christopher ’13, Cassie Christopher ’13, and Daniele Coxe ’13, defeated CHS 4-3 for the team’s second victory of the season, moving their record to 2-4. The boys swept their eight matches with the Kingsmen. Number one singles player Max Macey ’13 moved to 6-0 on the season with his win, while Wiley Vehslage ’13, Gardner Tregellas ’14, Justin Hart ’14, Will Bloomer ’14, and Aidan Stone ’13 were also victorious. Both doubles teams – Powell Robinson ’13 and Tregellas, and Henry Vehslage ’16 and Chris Bloomer ’16- also picked up wins. Boys varsity tennis is now 4-2 on the season.
Varsity softball continues to roll this season, and picked up another tough win behind excellent pitching from Jamie Schlim ’15 on Saturday. Schlim struck out 15 Christian Heritage batters while only surrendering two hits and one run in the 3-1 St. Luke’s win. Sasha Clark ’14 led the way on offense for the Storm with two hits, including a two-RBI single in the bottom of the fourth that proved to be the difference in the ballgame. Leadoff hitter Janay Parrott ’13 also had a good game at the plate and on the basepaths with two singles and a walk, as well as two stolen bases and a run scored.
Varsity baseball notched a huge bounce back victory over one of the league’s best teams, Hamden Hall. Just nine days earlier, the Storm were shut down by the Hornets in a 9-0 loss. The two teams traded runs early on, with Bob Morris ’13 leading the way for St. Luke’s. His early two run home run and third inning two-run RBI double, along with a third inning RBI base hit by Carl Graczyk ’14, gave SLS a 5-2 lead early on. Hamden Hall battled back in the top of the fourth and cut the lead to 5-4, but in the bottom frame Eliot Henson ’13 drove in a run on a perfectly placed bunt base hit, and Charlie Nelson ’13 followed it with a two-RBI double. Hamden Hall challenged again in the bottom of the seventh, but ultimately stalled out, falling to the Storm 8-6. Bobby Forese ’14 picked up the win with a workman-like performance on the mound, scattering five hits and striking out three Hornets through all seven innings. The baseball team hosts Kingswood-Oxford on Wednesday, May 1 for this year’s senior day game.
Varsity boys lacrosse had a huge offensive outburst and topped Harvey 17-1. Alex Libman ’15 scored three goals, while Mack Dowling ’13, Peter Moran ’13, and Robert Butman ’13 scored three goals each. The 17 goals is the highest offensive output of the year for the Storm, while the single goal is the fewest allowed by the team this season.
Varsity girls lacrosse was the final team to take the field for SpringFest, and unfortunately, they could not make it a clean sweep for the varsity teams on Saturday, dropping a 20-18 shootout with Hamden Hall. Caroline Parsons ’13 had a huge game with eight goals, an assist, and 11 draw controls. Lindsay Bralower ’13 scored a goal and added an assist and nine draw controls. Finley Frechette ’16 scored four goals and assisted on one, while her sister Gillis ’17 scored once and added three assists. Taylor Callaghan ’13 scored three times. Christie Kuehner ’13 also scored one goal and recorded an assist.
