Ancient Roman Coins Shared with St. Luke’s Students

V. Parker
From Director of Studies Jim Yavenditti:

Last semester, alumni parent Cliff Fox visited the Age of Pericles class to show the class his Greek coins. This semester, the Age of Augustus students were able to see his unbelievable Roman coin collection.

Fox gave a general overview of Roman coins, touching on some of the themes that we see in Roman coinage—imperial power, prosperity, peace—and then shared his collection with the class. Students were able to see Roman coins from more than 300 years ago, including ones of Julius Caesar, Augustus, Nero, and Hadrian. It was a special and rare opportunity for our St. Luke’s students to have this tactile connection with the ancient past they are studying this semester.

Many thanks to Mr. Fox for sharing both his impressive coin collection and his passion for ancient numismatics with us.
