Maroon & White Tournament A Huge Success

Dan Clarke
The annual Maroon and White Volleyball tournament was a huge success on Thursday, October 5 with over 40 student athletes coming together to celebrate the sport and St. Luke’s sisterhood.

This year’s event was organized by seniors Courteney Newman, Ali Ferris, and Hope Jackson who put many hours into creating the teams and brackets as well as all taking turns to be the Master of Ceremonies.

Six teams comprised of middle school, junior varsity, and varsity athletes competed in a fun, round robin tournament designed to foster a program-wide team mentality. Each team picked a middle school player to name ‘Queen of the Court’ and crowned them with tiaras.

The Orange Team, led by co-captain Maria Minuesa ‘18, Sydney Cummings ‘19, Emilia von Lilien-Brockmeyer ‘22, Annalise Correia ‘22, Sammy Stevelman ‘23, Katie Holmes ‘23 and Slyvia Samardzija ‘24 were crowned the 2017 champions.

The entire program will be back together on Saturday, October 7 when they travel to Fairfield University the Stags take on Quinnipiac University. Go Storm!
