Varsity Volleyball Sting The Hornets

Dan Clarke
Varsity Volleyball gave another impressive performance on Saturday, October 28 to sweep FAA rival Hamden Hall 3-0.

In a dominant road display the Storm made light work of the Hornets winning in straight sets 25-17, 25-11, 25-14 to improve to 8-1 in New England play and 5-2 in league play.

Co-captain Maria Minuesa ‘18 was at the heart of the team’s excellent form serving seven  straight service points in the first set and producing a number of superb sets throughout the matchup.

Emma Castiglione ‘18 was dominant in offense with six kills with co-captain Bridget Dalton ‘18 contributing with two blocks and two kills. There were also high impact performances from Riley Page ‘19 who had three kills, Elyse Kim ‘21 with two kills and Sydney Cummings ‘19 who also had two kills.

Saturday’s victory came on the back of an equally impressive 3-0 win over The Masters School on Thursday, October 26 and has put the team in a very strong position heading into their final league game against Sacred Heart.

Head coach Abby Abbott is thrilled with her team’s form: “Our team has worked hard this season to use a varied offensive strategy. The front row continues to keep our opponents guessing and I’ve also been impressed with our effective backrow offense. And not just by our usual outside hitters but by our libero, senior Ali Ferris, as well. Our defense continues to look sharp and we’ve had more successful blocks and diving saves than ever before. The team is dynamic and exhilarating to watch, if you’ve been able to catch a game this season, you know what I’m talking about.”

St. Luke’s plays Sacred Heart on Tuesday, October 21 at 4:30pm inside Carey Gymnasium.
