St. Luke's Tops FAA Rival Greens Farms Academy in Home Opener

Evan Downey
In a rematch of last year's FAA and New England Finals, St. Luke's Boys Varisty Basketball defeated rival Greens Farms Academy 71-61 in its home opener.  A raucous crowd helped bring the energy needed for the Storm to get off to a hot start.  After the Storm opened on a 13-3 run, the Dragons quickly took back the lead with a 27-8 run of their own.  Trailing 21-30 with just over two minutes to go in the first half, St. Luke's made a 12-2 run, highlighted by two buckets from Jah'khi Washington, a corner three from Andrew Varoli, a fastbreak layup from senior co-captain Jonas Harper, and an and-1 layup from senior co-captain Jackson Ryan that gave the Storm a 33-32 lead with three seconds to go in the half.  The second half was a back and forth affair for the first eight minutes until the Storm took a 48-47 lead on a Harper free throw.  Greens Farms continued to threaten for the rest of the game, but St. Luke's got enough buckets and stops to keep the Dragons at bay the rest of the way.  St. Luke's was led by Harper with 21 points, while Ryan and Jackson Selvala eached added 12, Varoli scored 11, John Wisdom scored 8, Washington added 6, and Cole Byrant hit a free throw to round out the Storm scoring.  St. Luke's returns to the hardwood on Monday afternoon to take on FAA rival King. Tip is at 5:00pm
