Pendulum Awarded Highest Honor by Columbia Scholastic Press Association

V. Parker
The Pendulum 2017 received the Columbia Scholastic Press Association’s Gold Medalist award as well as the All-Columbian Honors for Essentials (which includes the Editor’s statement, Table of Contents and staff and procedure information). Gold Medalist is highest honor awarded by the press association.

The judge’s comments of St. Luke’s literary magazine’s 2017 “Noise” edition were as follows:

"Your design and packaging of student artwork is clearly carefully done. You did a great job of complementing verbal content with visual.

Overall you've created a really wonderful collection of student work that is displayed with care and talent. I hope you feel very proud of this magazine because it is beautiful. I love how you've changed up each spread so that it doesn't feel like you've just popped pieces into a template.

There's a nice variety of noise and color, black and white and softer colors for the eye to rest, elements bleeding off the page then spreads with more white space and framing—this kind of variety gave you room for identifying elements like that recurring sound wave graphic. Very nicely done. Kudos for including layout credits and technical notes. We design geeks actually love reading that stuff."

We encourage you to check out last year’s "wonderful collection of student work" in The Pendulum 2017.

Congratulations to the 2017 Editor-in-Chief Jack Hobbs ‘17, Assistant Editor Zoe Smith ’17 and Layout Editor Meg Adams ‘18 as well as co-advisors Steve Flachsbart and Jeorge Yankura and all those who contributed.
