Mindfulness Conference Attracts Educators & Parents

nbt
The second annual Mindfulness in Education Conference attracted teachers and parents from St. Luke's and surrounding communities. Centered Learning: How Mindfulness Fuels Focus & Well-being was hosted by St. Luke's, The Spence School and the Community Mindfulness Project.

Attendees were eager to hear from keynote speaker Dr. Tish Jennings who is well-known in the mindfulness arena for her pioneering work around teacher stress. Jennings shared many of the findings she recently presented to the Dalai Lama including results from a large randomized control trial that demonstrated improved student engagement in classrooms where teachers practice mindfulness and emotional regulation.

Other speakers and workshop leaders included: Mark Davis, St. Luke's Head of School, Stephanie Bramlett, Director of St. Luke's Center for Leadership, Dr. Michele Grethel, Director of Counseling Services at The Spence School, Will Heins and Erika Long, Co-founders of the Community Mindfulness Project, Lisa Natoli-Sheehan, Founder of Relax into Meditation, Erin Thorkilsen, Teacher at Greens Farms Academy and Yoga Instructor at Saraswati's Yoga Joint , Emily Tully, Teacher at Bi-Cultural Day School in Stamford and Founder of Emily Tully Yoga and Charlotte Pecquex, Teacher at Central High School in Bridgeport, and Yoga Instructor at Saraswati's Yoga Joint.

St. Luke's Mindfulness in Education team is already planning next year's conference—stay tuned (and breathe deeply).
