College Counseling Hosts UK University Information Session

From College Counseling Director Sonia Bell:

On September 17, St. Luke’s College Counseling Office welcomed two admissions representatives from the University of Roehampton in London and the University of Sussex in Brighton, England. The guest speakers provided an overview of studying at university in the United Kingdom, touching on everything from the application process to student-life culture and structure. The early evening event was for Upper School students and parents interested in learning more about “crossing the pond” for college.

The representatives spoke about the advantages of attending a UK university, notably the lower cost of tuition, and degree programs that run three years instead of four. Most universities in the UK are “self-catered,” which means that students prepare their own meals. They also pointed out that students applying to study in the UK must choose a course (major) when they apply, and their personal statement (essay) must reflect that choice and their qualifications.
