Happy Homecoming For Storm Teams

Dan Clarke
St. Luke’s Homecoming 2018 was another hugely successful day with all our Varsity team’s in action over the course of the afternoon.

The festivities got underway with the Cross Country fun run and many runners braving the rain to participate in the 5K event. Carolina Warneryd ‘19 set the pace for the group with an excellent time of 24:46 on a hilly course.

Boys Varsity Soccer then took to the field for a noon showdown with FAA rivals The Masters School (NY). In an extremely entertaining game, Jake Kavan ‘21 gave the Storm the lead after 23 minutes following some good work by Phil Platek ‘20. St. Luke’s was pegged back before halftime when the Panthers scored from the penalty spot on a controversial handball call.

The game finished in a 1-1 tie despite a number of excellent attempts by the home team.

The St. Luke’s Volleyball team made light work of its homecoming opponent, EF Academy, with a dominant 3-0 win. Great serving from Elyse Kim ‘21 and power hitting from Sydney Cummings ‘19 throughout the contest allowed the Storm to improve to 5-4 for the season.

Varsity Field Hockey was next up and battled to a 1-1 tie with Miss Porter's School before losing in overtime, 1-2. It was a tough way to end the day after the Storm had fought back from 0-1 down with a goal from Lucy Ehlers ‘20. VFH falls to 4-8 on the season but the team will look to bounce back on Wednesday against The Gunnery School.

Girls Varsity Soccer continued its perfect season with a 6-0 victory against Hamden Hall. The Storm came out flying and goals from Lily Tencic ‘20, two from Lea Panagiotidis ‘20, Macy Owsley ‘22 and Julia Lombardo ‘21 gave St. Luke’s a 5-0 lead just 23 minutes into the contest. GVS controlled the second half with extended periods of possession and Jackie Thompson ‘20 rounding off the scoring with her first goal of the season.

The final contest of the afternoon was Varsity Football against The Hopkins School. The Storm was dominant on both sides of the ball and capped off a wonderful day with a 31-0 victory. Touchdowns from Andrew Lau ‘20, Austin Andersen ‘21 and two from Seth Kim ‘19 saw the Storm improve to 4-2 on the season in front of a huge Homecoming crowd. Everyone went home happy.
