Lunch & Lead: Fairfield Museum Executive Director Michael Jehle

VGP
From Center for Leadership Director Kate Parker-Burgard:

Michael Jehle always loved history. In particular, he was drawn to making connections between contemporary movements and the history behind them. After a short career as a sailor on tall ships, he deepened his love of history through work in museums, ultimately bringing him to the Fairfield Museum and History Center, where he now serves as the executive director.

At a Lunch and Lead on Tuesday, April 23, he emphasized the living nature of history and how richly it contextualizes our contemporary experience. For example, they recently had an exhibit on immigrants and refugees connecting historical perspective to present-day challenges. As they anticipate the 100th anniversary of the vote for women, they’re working on an exhibit that connects the suffragette movement with activism now and as they consider how political change can happen. His message of learning from the past to inform the future was a good reminder to all of us.
