Moon Festival Celebration

VGP
From Mandarin teacher Jingjing Lai:

On Friday, September 13, St. Luke’s Mandarin classes celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival (also called Moon Festival) by making Oreo mooncakes from scratch. Mid-Autumn is celebrated on the full moon of the 15th day of the eighth lunar month and is the second most important festival in China for family reunions.

Students in Mandarin classes worked in teams to make the mooncakes, which they then enjoyed eating. They also recorded videos wishing a happy Mid-Autumn Festival to students at our Shanghai partner school Dong Chang. In addition, students read poems about the moon, learned legends, and shared their reflections on the meaning of this holiday.

All the Mid-Autumn Festival celebration activities are related to the moon, including showing appreciation for the moon and eating mooncakes. Participating in these Chinese activities helps students develop both language and cultural appreciation in engaging and accessible ways.
