St. Luke’s Celebrates the Year of the Rat
Chinese New Year festivities on the Hilltop—includes photo gallery.
Chinese games, activities, and ethnic food were all part of the St. Luke’s Lunar New Year celebration. On Friday, Jan. 24, the festivities kicked off with fun fare, including dumplings that were made from scratch. FLIK dining services made the dough and filling for dumplings, while St. Luke’s parents taught Middle and Upper School students how to assemble and cook them. Besides enjoying making (and eating) the dumplings, Mandarin teacher Jingjing Lai and her students hosted chopstick games with prizes, which the Middle School students particularly enjoyed. On Monday, Jan. 27, the festivities continued with a zodiac game and sticker station, and Chinese name bookmarks and papercuts. Thanks to our Mandarin students and their recent field trip, the student and dining commons were decorated for the celebration. There were also Lunar New Year slides on the school monitors and Chinese books on display in the library.

Ms. Lai shared, “This year’s Lunar New Year was on Saturday, Jan. 25. Chinese families traditionally have a big feast and celebrations around the holiday that last for 15 days. On the Hilltop, we packed fun learning activities and food into the two school days surrounding the holiday. We appreciate the various departments that came together to make it all happen. Their efforts and collaboration helped us kick off the Year of the Rat.”
