Fathers & Friends Breakfast Tackles Topic of Technology
On Saturday, March 7, men throughout the St. Luke’s community, including current, future, and past St. Luke’s fathers, gathered for the Head of School’s annual Fathers & Friends Breakfast. The event kicked off with breakfast and the opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new connections. After breakfast, Head of School Mark Davis along with St. Luke's parent, trustee, and partner at Venrock David Pakman led the Preparing Our Children for a Tech-Saturated Future discussion in the Forese Family Fireplace Commons.
St. Luke’s Upper School Assistant Dean of Students and Head Football Coach Noel Thomas reflected: “I attend the Fathers & Friends Breakfast every year because it's a fun way to interact with people I don't see often. The conversations are thought-provoking, and I learn a great deal from this diverse group of individuals. Mark and David guided us through a vital conversation on how to prepare our children for an increasingly hi-tech world.” Thomas added, “There were great takeaways from the discussion, such as a reminder to model appropriate cell phone use and keep my social media footprint in line with my own moral compass and the school’s mission.”

St. Luke’s parent and Athletic Director Mike West added, “The event was a great display of the strong community at SLS. Led by Mark Davis & David Pakman, the discussion tackled the important topic of technology. The morning of companionship, and at times commiseration, inspired everyone in attendance, as we discussed the impact of technology on our students and children, as well as in our own lives. With remote learning on everyone's mind as a potential near-term reality, our conversation was relevant and timely.”
