St. Luke’s Chess Club Continues…

From Chess Club Advisor Alvin Hamilton:

St. Luke's Chess Club moved online on Friday, April 17. This move gives all St. Luke's students and faculty the chance to gather at the same time to play and learn the game. The club envisions casual play, instruction for newer players, school-wide tournaments, and fun for all. In the near future, the club hopes to arrange matches against other schools' chess clubs and to bring in master-level players, who will offer school-funded group instruction to club members.

The first meeting was primarily organizational, but a chess game or two did break out. The club's goal is to promote participation in and enjoyment of the game. Discussion occurred about the platform used for play, namely Chess.com, and the need for parental permission for students under 13 to get a free account.

Parents were invited to join the meeting and ask questions. The venue was my virtual classroom: Zoom Link. Moving ahead, students and parents who have questions about St. Luke’s Chess Club should contact me at hamiltona@stlukesct.org. Future meetings of the club will be held on Friday afternoons from 3:15-4:45pm in my virtual classroom.
