Top French Awards Given to Two St. Luke’s Seniors

V. Parker
During this week’s US Town Meeting, top French awards were given to St. Luke’s seniors Wes Meyers and Amelie Warneryd. Both awards are from the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF).

Wes was the statewide winner of the 2020 AATF Connecticut Tom Betts Senior Prize. This $1,000 prize is open to all high school seniors in the state of Connecticut. Applicants must submit an extensive application to be considered for the second tier of judging: a live interview in French with a panel of educators. Upper School World Language Chair Jon Shee shared, “Wes really impressed the judges with his fluency, as well as the presentation in his application. Wes’ ability to express himself in French is outstanding. It’s such an honor for him to win this prestigious statewide recognition!”
Amelie received the AATF Outstanding Senior in French Award. According to the AATF website: The winners were “nominated by their schools for excellence in the study of French, an overall high scholastic record, and exceptional commitment to the study of French by participation in extracurricular activities related to the French language and the many cultures where it is spoken.” In addition to a medal and certificate, Amelie’s name will be added to the list of recipients of the Outstanding Senior in French Award.

Félicitations to Wes and Amelie.
