Move over Queen’s Gambit. Mr. Hamilton and the Chess Club are in town.

On Tuesday, St. Luke’s Chess Club competed against Brunswick School in week four of the Fairfield County Scholastic Chess League.

St. Luke’s chess team advisor Alvin Hamilton provided the following recap of the match:

Up against the previously undefeated Brunswick School, St. Luke’s chess team played a great match against their tough opponents. Several young players from both teams earned key victories. In the end, St. Luke’s pulled ahead for the win: Brunswick 7.5 - St. Luke's 10.5.

At week four of six of league play, Brunswick is in first place with St. Luke’s coming in a close second, followed by Danbury and Joel Barlow.

Brunswick 3-1-0
St. Luke’s 2-2-0
Danbury 1-1-1
Joel Barlow 0-2-1

As the St. Luke’s Chess Club looks to take the lead in the remaining two weeks, Pierce Leclerc ‘21 encouraged the team with some words of inspiration, “Amazing job, everyone! Let's keep the ball rolling.”

Congratulations to the participants from both teams for a job well done.
