St. Luke’s Students Get in the Game with the Annual Souper Bowl

S.A.
On Friday, Feb. 5, St. Luke’s held its annual Souper Bowl food drive, led by the Upper School Service Board and Middle School Student Council. The Souper Bowl encourages the St. Luke’s community to donate non-perishable foods in support of Person-to-Person, a nonprofit organization that has seen the number of people facing food insecurity increase dramatically as a result of COVID-19.

Upper School food drive coordinators, Samantha Bauer and Sarah Case, helped organize the event. “We knew we had to work together to make this year's Souper Bowl a success in order to support the local community during these difficult times,” shared Samantha Bauer. Upper School students used their donations to predict the winner of Sunday’s game by placing food items on either the Kansas City Chiefs’ table or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ table. St. Luke’s predicted the Chiefs to win.

Seventh graders Lilianna Finn, Arjan Kochar, Patrick Gunn, Bobby Somaya, Kiara Copeland, and Annie Meyer took the lead on the Middle School food drive, which included a friendly competition among the grades. Their enthusiasm and leadership resulted in more than 600 food items collected! In addition to managing the competition’s logistics, the seventh grade team took a deep dive into food insecurity challenges, researching the cost of living in Fairfield County and the impact of COVID-19 on families in our area.

With the number of food-insecure people doubling, the annual Souper Bowl was more important than ever!

To show off their spirit for St. Luke’s Souper Bowl and Sunday’s game, the St. Luke’s community took the opportunity to dress in their favorite team gear. You can check out photos from the Souper Bowl here.

Thank you to everyone for donating and supporting our local community!
