The Page Comes to Life: US Students Enjoy an Exclusive Performance of “Molière Than Thou”

S.A.
On March 1, Upper School students enjoyed a livestreamed performance of Molière Than Thou, by actor Tim Mooney. Reinvigorating renaissance theater, this play turns the jokes and jabs of the 17th Century Molière into a witty, comedic dialogue that is relevant to today’s audiences.

Upper School World Language Department Chair Jon Shee’s French 4 and Honors French 4 students are currently studying Molière’s comedy Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme, and Head of Upper School Liz Perry’s Reading and Writing Satire class is enjoying Molière’s Tartuffe

Collaborating across disciplines, Shee and Perry bolstered learning and brought Molière to life by arranging the exclusive performance of Molière Than Thou for St. Luke’s students. Later that day, the performance was reprised for French learners from schools statewide.

Shee said, “Providing our students with the opportunity to experience live theater during Covid times is in itself wonderful. This particular performance packs in so much of the spirit of Molière into one of his most well-known and loved plays. We are all lucky to have been able to bring this show to St. Luke’s just for our students.”
