New Competitors Debut at MS Debate

St. Luke’s debate coach Meredith MacLeod shared details about last weekend’s Middle School debate and the new competitors on her team.

Last Saturday, St. Luke’s Middle School Debate Team participated in the Saturday Virtual Debate Tournament, where several St. Luke’s competitors made their school debut. Participants, representing federal and state governments, debated the motion: Should federal and state governments require standardized testing for the 2020-2021 school year. Ainsley Birmingham ‘25, Carter Lightburn ‘25, and Laurel Aronian ‘25 debated together for the first time in the open varsity division. Dash Gilrain-Lennon ‘25, Samantha Gerber ‘25, and Avery Zakowich ‘25 went 2-1, earning high speaker points. Salman Memon ‘26, Andrew Eiref ‘26, and Will Moskowitz ‘25 won 2-1 in the novice division. Will, one of the new members of the St. Luke’s team, won fourth place for Overall Best Speaker in the novice division.
