Storm Weekly Roundup

The St. Luke’s spring teams completed another productive week, with the Storm delivering a number of excellent performances.

Varsity softball enjoyed a great week, winning two games to improve to 5-2 overall on the season. Dakota Kelly ‘22 had an impressive outing on the mound on Friday, April 23. The junior gave up just two hits and struck out six batters in her three innings during a convincing 17-1 win against Greenwich Country Day School. The Storm was back at home on Wednesday, April 28, for a thrilling contest against Hamden Hall. St. Luke’s edged out the Hornets 9-8 when Katey Charnin ‘24 drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth. Alexandra Bacher ‘24 had an outstanding night with the bat going three for four at the plate, including a three-run homerun in the second inning and a two-run homer in the fourth. 

Boys varsity lacrosse split its two games to move to 3-2 for the season and 2-1 in FAA League play. The Storm lost 9-13 against Brunswick on Friday, April 23, in a very entertaining contest. The team then made the trip to Hamden Hall on Wednesday, April 28, when they stung the hornets 14-3. Johnny Cannon ‘22 had a stellar afternoon in goal, giving up just the three goals with Henry Robb ‘22 and Roderick Olson ‘23 impressing between the lines. Sully Franz ‘22 continued his fine form facing off for the Storm, and Chris Capone ‘23 and Harrison Bennett ‘23 scored key goals to help seal an outstanding win.

Girls varsity lacrosse kicked off the spring Homecoming sporting events on Saturday, April 24, but unfortunately lost a tough contest against Holy Child 9-14. The Storm was back at Pedrick Stadium on Wednesday, April 28, and recorded its first win of the season against Hamden Hall. St. Luke’s dominated from start to finish and secured a magnificent 16-6 win. GVL captains Ryan Weil ‘21 and Annalise Correia '22 had superb games on offense for the Storm. Molly Kim ‘21 had another excellent defensive performance limiting the Hornets scoring opportunities.

Boys tennis had a tough outing in its only match of the week against Brunswick School on Saturday, April 24, falling 0-7 to the Bruins. The Storm will look to get back to its winning ways on Saturday, May 1, when the team travels to Hamden Hall. They follow up the Hamden Hall match with another road trip to King School on Wednesday, May 5.

Girls varsity tennis brought some sunshine to the Homecoming events with another dominant display against Holy Child School. The Storm moved to 4-0 on the year with a 7-0 victory against the Gryphons. Audrey Magnusen ‘21 won her match 6-2, 6-0, Kelly Nuner ‘24 defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-0, Layla Magnusen ‘22 won 6-1, 6-2 and Liza Sieghart ‘24 completed the singles matches with a 6-3, 6-1 victory. In the doubles contests, Caroline Pellegrino ‘21 and Macy Millones ‘23 won 6-1, 6-1, CC Buono ‘23 and Kiley Galvin ‘23 won 6-2, 6-0 and Izzy Levi ‘24 and Kate Edwards ‘25 completed the matches with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph.

Varsity baseball also enjoyed a superb week with wins over Christain Heritage and Greenwich Country Day School. The Storm recorded a 10-0 Homecoming win on Saturday, April 24, against CHS, with Ryan Higgins ‘21 pitching five scoreless innings and striking out 13 of 15 batters. St. Luke’s followed up with another great performance on the road at GCDS on Wednesday, April 28. The team moved to 6-1 on the season with a 10-1 victory against the Tigers.

Varsity golf won its only match of the week against King School at the Country Club of New Canaan on Tuesday, April 27. Ben Loomis ‘22 low scored for the Storm with a 37 and Eoin Mueller ‘23 produced some fine golf to post a 38. St. Luke’s other match of the week against Greens Farms Academy was canceled due to inclement weather.
