Winter Sports Set to Ramp Up

Daniel Clarke
After a hugely successful season, the Storm switches its focus from fall to winter sports, with many of our varsity teams in action next week.

During the fall season, St. Luke’s was fortunate to be able to welcome back spectators to sporting events, with very few restrictions in place. It was tremendous to see our families back on the Hilltop cheering on our student-athletes throughout the season and play-off runs.

As we switch to indoor sports, we have put in place spectator policies to help keep our community safe.

As part of the FAA, and in accordance with St. Luke's own guidance, all spectators at indoor events will be required to wear a mask that fully covers their nose and mouth. There will be a limit of two spectators per player for basketball and squash events, and we ask that spectators physically distance themselves to the greatest degree possible. All squash spectators will be located on the mezzanine viewing area during matches.

We look forward to seeing parents, grandparents, and siblings in attendance this winter, showing their support of all our teams.

Varsity girls squash season gets underway at home on Tuesday, Dec. 7, when they host New Canaan High School.

On Wednesday, Dec. 8, girls basketball travels to Holy Child School for its first FAA contest of the year, and boys basketball makes the trip to Greenwich Country Day School.

On Friday, Dec. 10, St. Luke’s hockey has its season opener on the road at Westminster School.

On Saturday, Dec. 11, both boys and girls basketball take to the hardwood again. The boys travel to Babson College to play Cushing Academy, while the girls host The Storm King School.

St. Luke’s varsity ski team has started its dryland training and looks forward to getting on the mountain after winter break.

Boys varsity squash had its first scheduled contest canceled, so it is waiting for confirmation on when it will start interscholastic competition. The team hopes to get its season underway before the December break.
