Ski Team Set For Final Race of the Season

Daniel Clarke
The St. Luke’s Ski Team will compete in its final race of the year on Tuesday, Feb. 8, at Mount Southington Ski Area.

Tuesday’s season finale will be the Storm’s fifth race of the season, with the team returning to the mountain one last time for practice on Thursday, Feb. 10.

It has been a hugely successful season for the team and its new head coach Erin Hupal and assistant coach Paul Foley. Hupal is thrilled with what she has seen from her skiers this year: “The return to racing has been inspiring to watch. For each race, the students set their own goals for improvement and strive to achieve them, while cheering on their teammates. It has been so much fun to encourage and support them.”

Senior captain Dakota Kelly and siblings Pearse Connell ‘24 and Thomas Connell ‘26 have led the way for the Storm, finishing strongly in all races.

The team celebrated Kelly before the race on Monday, Feb.1, with Athletic Director Mike West thanking the sole senior for all her contributions to the program. Pearse finished first for St. Luke’s and 25th overall in a field of 166 racers, and Kelly finished second for the Storm and in 32nd place overall. McLain Boege ‘26 finished third for St. Luke’s and 53rd overall.

In the boys race, Thomas finished first again for St. Luke’s and 41st overall in a field of 135 racers. Breck Lyon ‘26 was next for St. Luke’s, closely followed by Liam Monahan ‘26 in 70th and 72nd place overall.
