The annual St. Luke’s Athletics Awards Night on Tuesday, May 31, celebrated the accomplishments of all 20 Upper School sports and our student-athletes.
The event was held in the Seldin Performing Arts Center, where St. Luke’s honored a record 331 students who participated in Upper School athletics.
Athletic Director Mike West, Associate Athletic Director Jennifer Besgen, Assistant Athletic Director Anna Knechtel, Assistant Athletic Trainer Nicole Guido, and Sports Information Specialist Dan Clarke collaborated on the event, where the outstanding achievements of St. Luke's student-athletes and the community members who helped them succeed were recognized.
Guests took a look back at the year with highlight videos dedicated to each of the three seasons, as well as a special one devoted to the Class of 2022 athletes. The 52 three-sport athletes, another record for the Storm, and the 20 student-athletes who will play athletics at the collegiate received special recognition.
Karey Balkind ‘22 and Henry Robb ‘22 were two of only a handful of students from across the league to receive the FAA Scholar-Athlete Award. To qualify for this accolade, a student-athlete has to rank in the top 10% of their senior class and have taken at least three advanced courses. Nominees must be multi-sport athletes who were honored as All-League FAA athletes within the last 12 months.
West was delighted with how the evening unfolded: “It was a great evening to recognize and celebrate our athletes. The culture of multi-sport participation is strong, and the desire to get the most out of each and every moment together was on full display at the awards ceremony and throughout the year. This year’s awards celebration reinforced our strong sense of community and put an exclamation point on a year like no other.”
