St. Luke’s 2022-2023 Faculty-Staff Awards

As the 2022-2023 school year came to a close, St. Luke’s faculty and staff gathered to recognize their outstanding peers who went above and beyond this school year. The gratitude and excitement could be felt in the air during the awards presentation held in the Seldin Performing Arts Center.

This year’s awards include:

The Tracy B. Duncan Innovation Award: Janet Jochem, Upper School Science Teacher
Presented to an innovative St. Luke’s community member who had a significant impact on the student experience and the development of a culture of innovation at St. Luke’s

Dr. Joseph Kidd Excellence in Teaching Award: Joshua Schneider, Upper School Science Teacher
Given to a full-time teacher who exemplifies the ideals of St. Luke’s through excellence in the classroom, service to the entire school community, and dedication to the well-being and growth of St. Luke’s students 
 
Mark C. Davis Award: Mary Kate DeRienzo, Admissions Associate
Given to a full-time faculty or staff member whose contribution to St. Luke’s far exceeds expectations, thereby enriching the life and effectiveness of the school
 
Edward Scovner Excellence in Middle School Teaching Award: Jen Pokorney, Middle School History Teacher
Given to a Middle School teacher who inspires students to fulfill their potential, demonstrates a deep commitment to and affection for students, and possesses a distinctive style and approach to teaching
(Head of Middle School Amber Berry presented this award during the Eighth-Grade Promotion Ceremony on June 8.)

The Kontulis Family Faculty Chair: Efrain Pontaza, Upper School Spanish Teacher 
This is a rotating endowed chair that helps St. Luke’s recognize, retain, and inspire top teaching talent. Chair-holders are outstanding classroom teachers who inspire both students and faculty alike. The recipient holds the honor for two years and receives a stipend to be used on a project of their choice.
