FAA Renames Hockey Tournament in Honor of Teddy Balkind
In December of 2023, the Fairchester Athletic Association made the unanimous decision to rename the FAA Ice Hockey Tournament “The Teddy Balkind Memorial Ice Hockey Tournament” to honor Teddy's dedication to the game and to recognize his cherished time on the St. Luke's hockey team.
St. Luke's hosted this year’s championship game between Rye Country Day School and Hamden Hall Country Day School on Feb. 24, 2024, at the SoNo Ice House. St. Luke's Director of Athletics Anna Knechtel was there to present the trophies to the winning teams.
“It was an honor to remember Teddy with the newly named tournament,” Knechtel said. “I know the impact Teddy had on the SLS community, but to hear the tap of sticks when I made the announcement made me realize how much he also meant to the FAA and the greater hockey community.”
