Students Prepare for Conversations with Nadine Strossen
On Monday, Dec. 7, constitutional law and civil liberties expert Nadine Strossen will join St. Luke’s to explore the power and perils of free speech. This opportunity is brought to us by the Center for Leadership and St. Luke’s Parents’ Association.
St. Luke’s students, faculty, and staff will have the opportunity to engage in thoughtful conversations and deep-dive discussions with Strossen regarding First Amendment rights, protected and non-protected speech, free speech on college campuses, and the impact of cancel culture.
Leading up to Strossen’s visit, students used Advisory time to review and discuss the First Amendment and prepare questions to ask on Monday. The day after the event, students will discuss what they learned and share their reactions in their Community Goals for Learning (CGL) groups. Upper School students who have been trained as facilitators will lead the US discussions, while Middle School advisories will meet in pairs for conversations facilitated by the Advisor.
We hope you'll ask your children what they learned about the First Amendment and what questions Strossen's visit raised for them. Civil discourse calls us to lean in to hard discussions, and we hope your children come home asking lots of questions and eager to continue the conversation.
