When St. Luke's Hilltop campus closed due to COVID-19, we quickly shifted to St. Luke's at Home. Our top priorities: 1) Ensure students continue to receive an exceptional education and 2) Keep our community closely connected and able to support one another.
In these pages, you will find evidence of a challenging but ultimately rewarding three months of St. Luke's at Home. Thanks to skilled teachers and the best academic technology team, bar none, St. Luke's Distance Learning Plan was in place within days of campus closing. In the words of one student, it quickly felt a lot like school. Mission accomplished!
To keep us connected, an ongoing series of virtual gatherings, webinars, and informal chats were hosted every week—including a weekly Zoom call for parents with Head of School Mark Davis. (You can watch some of these gatherings on the SLS@Home video channel below). School traditions and ceremonies were creatively reimagined. Herculean efforts were made by parents and faculty to celebrate our seniors—including stealth, special deliveries to every household. (Scroll down to We can do this! for a glimpse of the energy and activities that kept us together).
St. Luke's at Home is not something we wished for but in the end, it was all we hoped it could be. Our parents agree with 94% saying they were satisfied with St. Luke's response to the crisis and campus closing.
We look forward to our return to our Hilltop campus on August 24th—but it's good to know St. Luke's at Home is there for us if needed.
Beyond impressed at the teachers and students engaged in distance learning. When I heard my child’s teacher speaking to her homeroom this morning in her extraordinarily resonant and comforting voice, my eyes filled for a moment."
As we discover new ways to be together, I hope we also find renewed faith in our shared humanity, new depths of kindness and compassion for others, and new strength (and an immune system boost) in being part of something bigger than ourselves. The kindness that draws people to St. Luke’s and binds us in this exceptional community is—after all—our own source of strength. And it has never been more important."
We can do this!
