Strength and Conditioning
SLS provides year-round access to our Wellness and Fitness Center, which includes dedicated team training spaces, located next to the squash courts in the Athletic Center. Our full-time strength and conditioning coach is available to help athletes and SLS teams train safely and effectively, both during the season and off-season. All SLS students are welcome to use the training room and work with our staff to support their fitness, strength, and conditioning goals.
Captains Council
The Captains Council is a weekly leadership program for SLS varsity team captains. It’s designed to help student-athletes develop confidence, communication skills, and strategies to support their teams through both challenges and victories.
Each session provides captains with an opportunity to discuss real team dynamics, such as morale, motivation, and balancing academics with athletics, while learning from one another’s experiences. Guest speakers, including alumni and leadership professionals, offer additional perspectives.
The Council builds on SLS’ summer Leadership Workshop and now runs year-round, expanding to winter and spring teams. Captains leave the program better equipped to lead not just on the field, but in the classroom and beyond.
Sports Medicine
A top priority at SLS is helping every athlete stay healthy, strong, and ready to perform at their best. Our certified athletic trainers are a daily presence on campus, working closely with students to help prevent, assess, treat, and rehabilitate injuries while providing education on safe training habits.
Through our partnership with the nation’s leading orthopedic hospital, the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), SLS athletes have access to top-tier medical expertise and resources, including team physician Dr. Moira McCarthy. From pre-season screenings and ongoing support to expert evaluation and rehabilitation, we take a proactive approach to every athlete’s well-being, ensuring they have the support and care they need on and off the field.
Certified Athletic Trainers (ATCs)
SLS has certified athletic trainers on staff to help prevent, assess, treat, and rehabilitate injuries. Trainers are on-site daily during practices and games.

Concussions & ImPACT Testing
Learn about our concussion policy. Upper School athletes take part in ImPACT baseline testing to support concussion care (since younger students’ brains develop rapidly, baseline testing is not recommended for them) . Testing is conducted each season and remains valid for two years. Learn more at impacttest.com.
Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) Partnership
Dr. Moira McCarthy, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery at HSS, serves as team physician. HSS “Ortho Now” clinics offer quick access to expert orthopedic care.
